The Blue House
With two floors of gifts and decor, there’s no chance you’re leaving this shop with less than at least a few fabulous items.
Next time you’re in downtown Brighton, look for the blue house on Main—inside this Edwardian home (built in 1903), you’ll find a unique store, filled what everything you need to “add beauty and charm to your home, or gift ideas for all occasions.”
Bright and beautiful, the newly renovated Blue House boasts two floors—the main floor is the gift shop and it’s chockful of wonderful items: local art, pottery, jewellery, garden accessories, linens, bath and body products, dishes and serving pieces, mosaic glass windows, greeting cards, hand-painted ceramic tiles, lanterns and hand-turned wooden bowls. Some of the most popular items in the store are the woven mats made from recycled plastic—they come in lovely colours, patterns and even with fun phrases. (We’re partial to “Wine lovers welcome.”)
Walk up the oak staircase and you’ll find bigger pieces to make a statement in your home—think Canadian-made furniture and large antiques. Services for customers are just as robust—the owners recently added custom framing to their repertoire, plus they offer free gift-wrapping and even a gift registry, where you can curate your favourite must-haves to make shopping easier for friends and family.
There’s also a gorgeous outdoor space filled with patio and backyard decor. Metal herons, flowers and wind spinners are perfect for big pots or the garden. Plus the concrete statuary—think benches, fountains, birdbaths—are all made in Canada and built to withstand our seasons.
